They saw the attention that blondness provided, craved the specialness, and manipulated it for temporary gain and perpetual demise. The myopia and pride is what actually dumbs down a bleached blonde, too busy cosplaying as a sexy nurse to actually study. Ironically playing a caricature until it is reality.
